Children of ’16 –– a song written by Declan to suit both the solemnity of the commemoration of the Easter 1916 Rising in Ireland, and indeed as a study of the impact of 1916 as a whole on Ireland then, and for all generations of Irish who have followed since, who are in essence, the children of 1916.
Children of ’16 (accompanied by full orchestra) was the first a single from the 2016 record ‘Declan O’Rourke – In Full Colour’, featuring 15 original songs by the artist and one hidden surprise track. The 15 originals are comprised of 12 re-imagined classics from across O'Rourke's career in the period 2004-2016, and 3 new songs (including Children of '16). All sixteeen tracks are accompanied by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Orchestral arrangements include works by Fiacra Trench, Brian Byrne, and O'Rourke himself.
